Sumit Basu is a darkroom aficionado and spends a lot of time in making prints.
Photography for him is the magic of viewing a picture in the viewfinder - that’s what fascinates him. To see and further develop in the darkroom where a photographer discovers himself. Attracted to motifs in city life that speak of an underlying culture -sometimes of abandoned things which reflect the melancholy of everyday urban existence or of memories of events long over. His present project is on Varanasi and ongoing projects are on Urban Landscapes and a project about Calcutta, all in Black and White.
