Amber Hammad is currently a practicing visual artist and researcher living in Sydney, Australia. Born and raised in Pakistan, she has been part of the teaching faculty at the National College of Arts as well as Beaconhouse National University, in Lahore.

As a participant observer of the traditionally conservative and patriarchal Muslim culture, the diverse practices of Muslim women’s clothing and numerous unresolved debates around it, have intrigued her to investigate Muslim women’s attire through multidisciplinary research. This is connected to her ongoing art practice, where the identity politics, polemics of female body, discourses in relation to its veiling and unveiling and the religious and cultural practices surrounding it, inform her art works.
