Paul Brouns was born in 1967 in Ittervoort, a small village in the south of the Netherlands.
During his study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tilburg (Academie voor beeldende vorming), he got in touch with photography. At that time it was still an analogue process.
After his graduation (1990) he started creating and exhibiting paintings and graphic prints. After multiple government grants, in the early 1990s he was among the first artists to employ graphic computer applications (Illustrator and Photoshop) as a tool to create art. Around this time Paul Brouns also became more and more involved in graphic design and he started working as a graphic designer for different studios and advertising companies. In 2008 he started working as a freelancer in order to free up more time again for his artistic ambitions.
Inspired by the creative possibilities of digital photography, in recent years (since 2014) he has concentrated mainly on this new medium. Because of his ongoing love of geometrical patterns, repetition and the use of saturated colours, he has developed a personal approach to architectural photography. His work resembles his early abstract work, but through photography it is more strongly linked to the world as he observes it.
His work is available in certified limited editions and is increasingly in demand among art collectors worldwide.
